DEATH OF CONVENT NUN
The death of Mother Joseph Mary Berry occurred peacefully at the Convent of Mercy : after a short illness. Born in Newport, Co. Mayo, 96 years ago, she entreed the Order of the Sisters of Mercy in Belturbet in 1900. She taught in the Primary School until her retirement in 1946 with a record of never having been absent from school in all those 46 years. During her 75 years in Belturbet she made many friends and endeared herself to all who met her by her gentle courtesy and genuine kindness. As a teacher she was greatly loved and respected as the many tributes of generations of past pupils testify. The funeral took place on Friday to the Convent cemetery after concelebrated Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. McKiernan, Bishop of Kilmore, assisted by Very Rev. Canon Mullin, P.P., and Very Rev. J. Carroll, P.P., officiated.
